Spoilers in Post: Yes (Mild)
Where: Amazon/Own ($2.99 to own)
Release Type: Television
Plot: A family decides they can’t afford their daughter so they send her to her aunt and uncle’s house where she falls in love with her cousin
and they get locked up in an attic together. No wait wrong movie.
Scoring Notes: generally a +5 is the highest I will give a component. A -5 is the lowest. If it goes beyond that, then you know I am quite serious
+2 for Billie Piper. I adore the Bad Wolf, but she seems so lost in this movie.
+3 for Blake Ritson. I’ll say it again, why isn’t he in more stuff?
+3 for Hayley Atwell. This is the first time I’ve seen this one since Agent Carter was introduced to the world.
Production (Writing/Directing/Soundtrack, etc…):
-5 for everything. I want to love this film. I usually adore the leads. And Jane Austen. But….but…but… this movie is so utterly, absolutely boring. And its jarring how quickly Edmund realizes his feelings. They seem to come out of nowhere.
I know most Austen purists hate the 1999 version of Mansfield Park. I have no idea how they feel about this version; but I honestly feel like I only know what’s happening and what the conflict is because of that version. Much of the story is scandalous (as presented in the movies; I’ve never read the novel); and I feel like this is just missing everything.
Total Score: 3
