Pride & Prejudice (2005)

I too can’t believe I started this month with this version of P&P and not that version; but overall this is still a lovely, enjoyable movie.

Spoilers in Post: Yes (Cause really, who isn’t familiar with Mr. Darcy?)

Where: On Demand (TV)

Rating: PG

Year: 2005

Release Type: Theatrical

Plot: Elizabeth Bennett is witty and sharp. Mr. Darcy is a wee bit prejudiced. Together sparks fly as they learn to get over themselves to find their happily ever after.

Scoring Notes: generally a +5 is the highest I will give a component. A -5 is the lowest. If it goes beyond that, then you know I am quite serious

+3 for Kiera Knightly. She embodies Elizabeth Bennett throughout the movie with wonderful touches of wry and wit.

+5 for Matthew Macfayden. He reminds me of Alan Rickman. Enough said (Right? Right.)

+3 for Simon Wood. I adore his earnestness as Mr. Bingley

Production (Writing/Directing/Soundtrack, etc…):

+10 for the glamour shots. Many of the shots still make me gasp at the beauty.

+5 for a well-rounded cast.

+2 for the soundtrack

-3 for overall plotting. Perhaps I’m prejudiced, my first introduction to the P&P story line was from that version of Pride and Prejudice. And since its longer it delves more into the story. I feel like had I first seen this version I might have gotten a bit lost in the story line.

+10 for family friendliness. Its theatrical rating is PG.

+10 would watch again (this is at least the 4th time I’ve seen this particular version)

Total Score: 45
